When you cannot bump it

Your exchange withdrawal is stuck. Here is what actually works.

You cannot replace a transaction you did not sign. That rules out the usual fix and leaves three real options, one of which is the only honest case for paying an accelerator.

Short answer

You cannot use Replace-By-Fee on an exchange withdrawal, because the exchange holds the keys and signed the transaction. Your real options are CPFP on the output you received, asking the exchange to bump it, or waiting. This is also the one situation where paying for acceleration can be genuinely justified.

This is the most frustrating version of a stuck transaction, because the standard advice does not apply to you. Every guide says bump the fee. You cannot. The exchange built and signed that transaction, and only whoever holds the keys can replace it.

Before the options, one warning that matters more than anything else on this page.

Those support phone numbers are scams

Search results for stuck exchange withdrawals are full of pages carrying phone numbers claiming to be Coinbase, Binance or Kraken support. They appear on quote sites, forum reposts and scraped content farms. None of the major exchanges provide phone support for this. Calling one connects you to somebody who will ask for your credentials, your seed phrase, or a payment to release funds. Contact exchanges only through the support link inside their own app or website.

First, work out whether it has even been broadcast

Exchange withdrawals move through several stages before they touch Bitcoin at all, and most of the delay usually happens before the network is involved.

If there is no transaction ID, stop reading technical guides. Nothing about fees, mempools or accelerators applies, because there is no transaction. That is a support question for the exchange.

Why you cannot use RBF

Replacing a transaction means signing a new one that spends the same inputs. Those inputs belong to the exchange's wallet, not yours. Without their private keys you cannot produce a valid replacement, and no service can do it for you either.

This is worth stating plainly because plenty of accelerator marketing implies otherwise. Nobody can bump somebody else's transaction. What a paid accelerator does is different, and it is covered further down.

Option one: CPFP on the coins you received

This is usually the best lever available. You cannot change their transaction, but once it pays out to your address, you control that output. Spending it in a new transaction with a generous fee makes miners want the pair together.

The mechanics, the fee formula and a worked example are in the CPFP guide. The short version is that you send a small transaction to yourself, spending the incoming output, paying enough that the combined package clears the current rate.

The catch with batched withdrawals

Exchanges frequently batch many customer withdrawals into one transaction. If yours is batched, your output is one of dozens, and a CPFP from you lifts the entire batch. That means your child has to carry the fee for a much larger parent, which can make it expensive or impractical.

Check the transaction on an explorer. If it has fifty outputs, it is a batch and CPFP may not be worth it.

Option two: ask the exchange to bump it

They can replace their own transaction, and the larger exchanges do have processes for this. Whether they will depends on the platform and how you ask.

What to write

Support agents handle a lot of vague messages. A specific one gets routed correctly:

Naming the mechanism matters. It signals you know what you are asking for and gets the ticket to somebody technical faster.

Platform by platform

Coinbase

Coinbase batches withdrawals heavily and generally sets fees itself. Support exists through the Help Centre in the app, starting with an automated assistant that escalates to a human. There is no phone line for this. Because of batching, CPFP from your side is often impractical, so support and patience are the realistic routes.

Binance

Binance publishes withdrawal status in the transaction history, and a pending state without a transaction ID usually means internal processing rather than a network delay. Once broadcast, their fees are typically set well above the clearing rate, so genuine sticking is uncommon. Use in-app support and quote the transaction ID.

Kraken

Kraken tends to be more transparent about fee selection and its support is generally responsive to fee bump requests referencing a specific transaction ID. Of the large exchanges, this is the one where asking is most likely to work.

Cash App and Strike

Both are more consumer oriented with less granular control. Support is in-app only. CPFP from your receiving wallet is often the faster path if the payment reached an address you control.

Smaller exchanges

Variable, and the risk profile is different. A withdrawal that never gets a transaction ID from a small platform can indicate liquidity problems rather than a network issue. If a transaction ID never appears after a long delay, escalate rather than waiting quietly.

Option three: when paying for acceleration is justified

We spend most of this site arguing that paid acceleration is usually a waste, and our measurements back that up. This is the exception, and it is worth being fair about it.

The honest case requires all three of these to be true:

  1. You genuinely cannot bump it. The exchange will not, and CPFP is impractical because the withdrawal was batched.
  2. The transaction is genuinely underpriced. Check the rate against the current clearing rate rather than assuming.
  3. The delay actually costs you something. A closing window, a counterparty waiting, a deadline.

If all three hold, paying a pool to prioritise it is a reasonable purchase. Check the real shortfall first so you know whether the quote is three times that number or seventeen times.

Check for a transaction ID first, because if there is none the Bitcoin network is not your problem. If there is one, look at whether it is batched. Unbatched means CPFP is available to you and cheap. Batched means asking support is the sensible first move, with acceleration as a paid fallback when the delay genuinely costs more than the quote.

And ignore any phone number offering to fix this. The exchanges do not have one.
